Windows vista home premium wont connect to internet free. I can’t afford to upgrade my Vista PC. What can I do?

However, on the Vista machine, it shows that I have an internet connection and that information is being sent and recieved but it wont load any webpages and it wont run programs such as AIM. Fres have file sharing software and it will download from that but at a very slow rate.

You have to shut windows firewall off completely. I have mcaffe so i still have a firewall. I called dell today and thats all they could tell me to do. I'm not sure why but everytime i try to run it i lose connections like crazy and then i spend 3 hours tryin to reconnect to the internet. I think its that i've only had the computer 2 wks, and i've had to restore my system twice!
I have turned all of my firewalls off. Right now, the security on my computer is virtually zero and it still will not stay connected. Today, my connection was good for the first five minutes and then it went dead. I've read on some other forums that the Vista program isnt compatible with certain types ot modems or routers.

VT1rocks - Since you have a Westell please make sure you have the most up-to-date firmware. There are many devices that will not work with Vista. Realize wndows Vista is designed to utilize the new technology that has been created in the last several years such as using bit devices, before we could use on bit.
Now that devices are faster and can do more because of the bit architecture some of the older devices may жмите work. You should look to the manufacturer or provider of the Westell modem for a firmware update that will allow this to work on Vista. I've not heard one way or the other but that may be the issue. I have exactly the same problems that you describe and am runing a DSL line. It does something to my router a Zyxel. I, too, have a C running windoes Vista.
